Editor in Chief | Editorial Board | Articles and Contributors
The modern academic study of the Bible is a highly technical and multifaceted field. Its practitioners are often required to gain expertise in diverse areas ranging from archaeology, Egyptology, Assyriology, and linguistics through textual, historical, and sociological studies, to literary theory, feminist studies, philosophy, and theology – to name but a few. As a result, the field of Biblical Studies is incredibly dynamic, with new discoveries, new methodologies, and new perspectives continually being brought to bear on the interpretation of the Bible. Managing the ever-expanding universe of scholarly publications in this field of study has proven to be a monumental if not near impossible task. Oxford Bibliographies in Biblical Studies provides students and scholars with a reliable and authoritative solution to the problem of information overload.
Editor in Chief

Christopher R. Matthews is Editor of New Testament Abstracts and Research Professor at the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry. He received his doctoral degree in New Testament and Christian Origins from Harvard in 1993. He joined the administration of Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, MA, as Managing Editor of New Testament Abstracts in 1986, and now continues in the role of Editor at the Boston College STM into which the former Weston Jesuit has been incorporated. He is the author of Philip: Apostle and Evangelist: Configurations of a Tradition, which appears in the Supplements to Novum Testamentum series (Leiden: Brill, 2002). He is responsible for the introduction and notes for the Gospel of Luke in the revised edition of The HarperCollins Study Bible (2006), and also contributed the introduction and notes for Acts of the Apostles in the The New Oxford Annotated Bible (4th ed.; 2010). Having written more than 14,500 abstracts for NTA and edited an additional 35,000 or so, he is in an ideal position to monitor the scholarly interests and production in the discipline of Biblical studies.
