BIOGRAPHY:

Leofranc Holford-Strevens was born in 1946 and educated at Christ Church, Oxford, proceeding MA in 1970 and obtaining his D.Phil. in 1971 with a thesis entitled 'A Select Commentary on Aulus Gellius Book 2'. Thereafter he worked for the Oxford University Press till retiring as Consultant Scholar-Editor in 2011. His publications include Aulus Gellius: An Antonine Scholar and His Achievement (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2003), The History of Time: A Very Short Introduction_(Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2005); co-authored with Bonnie J. Blackburn The Oxford Companion to the Year (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 1999); co-edited with Amiel D. Vardi, The Worlds of Aulus Gellius (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2004); and numerous articles on classical, computistic, and musicological subjects. He is currently working on a new Oxford Classical Text of Aulus Gellius.
