BIOGRAPHY:
Holger Essler is lecturer (Akademischer Rat) in Classics, Papyrology and Digital Humanities at the University of Würzburg. He has held research fellowships at the University of Würzburg, Oxford University, and the University of Naples. His publications comprise History of Ancient Studies, Documentary and Literary Papyrology, Ancient Philosophy, and Classical Literature, with a focus on Herculaneum papyri and German papyrus collections. He is director of Anagnosis, a digital project aiming at aligning letters in images and in transcriptions of papyri, and collaborating with the Digital Corpus of Literary Papyri to create a database of all Greek texts from Herculaneum (especially Philodemus).
