BIOGRAPHY:
P. Nelson Reid is Professor of Social Welfare in the UNCW School of Social Work. He has held academic and administrative appointments s at Ohio University, Auburn University, North Carolina State University, and, since 1998, at University North Carolina Wilmington. He has held visiting appointments at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and the University of Cape Town. His publications include, The Moral Purposes of Social Work (Nelson Hall 1993), and The Professionalization of Poverty: Social Work and the Poor in the 20th Century (Aldine de Gruyter 2000) as well as more than forty scholarly articles and book chapters in the areas of American social welfare history and policy, applied ethics, and social service administration.
