BIOGRAPHY:
Janis Eshots is an Associated Professor of Persian and Arabic Literature at the Department of Asian Studies of the University of Latvia, Latvia. He studied Persian language and literature at the Institute of Literature (Moscow, Russia) and received his Ph.D. from Tallinn University, Estonia. His doctoral dissertation is devoted to the Iranian philosopher Sadr al-Din al-Shirazi (Mulla Sadra). He has published about fifty articles on Islamic philosophy, Sufism and Persian literature and translated into Russian several works of Sadra, Suhrawardi, Mir Damad and Sadr al-Din Qunawi. He is the editor of the Islamic Philosophy Yearbook “Ishraq”, published jointly by the Institute of Philosophy of Russian Academy of Sciences and Iranian Academy of Philosophy (www.iph.ras.ru/ishraq1.htm ).
