BIOGRAPHY:
Carol J. Dempsey, OP, Ph.D. is Professor of Theology (Biblical Studies) at the University of Portland, OR. She is the author of 8 books, the latest of which include The Bible and Literature (2015, Orbis Books) and Amos, Hosea, Micah, Nahum, Zephaniah, Habakkuk (2013, Liturgical Press). She is also the editor of 11 volumes. Carol serves on the editorial board for the Catholic Biblical Quarterly and Old Testament Abstracts and is one of the general editors for the new Paulist Press Biblical Commentary. Carol edited all of the books on the Prophets and wrote Isaiah, Habakkuk, and Introduction to the Prophets. Working with a host of international scholars, Carol is also on the editorial board for the new Wisdom Commentary Series a 58-volume project that involves voices from both developed, developing, and third world nations. Carol is editing the books on the Prophets. Her forthcoming books include: Isaiah 1-39: for the Berit Olam Series: Studies in Hebrew Poetry (Liturgical Press) and Isaiah for the Wisdom Commentary Series (Liturgical Press). Carol has published numerous articles, chapters in books, and has delivered more than 60 scholarly papers to professional societies and academic audiences. She lectures internationally and is a popular pastoral speaker as well.
