BIOGRAPHY:

Garth Mason was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He studied at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits). In 1991 he obtained a post in the Department of Religion at Wits. Subsequently, he has worked at several universities in Southern Africa, including Botswana University, University of Cape Town (as a visiting academic in 2019) and currently at the University of South Africa. Garth Mason has published broadly in Hinduism, Buddhism and the intersections between Hinduism and Buddhism. He has acted as Chair for the Association of Indology in South Africa, as an executive member on the board of the Association for the Study of Religion in Southern Africa and is a member of the Centre for Asian Religions (CSAR) at the University of Cape Town.
