BIOGRAPHY:

Stephen de Wijze is Senior Lecturer in Political Theory at the University of Manchester. His research interests include the problem of ‘dirty hands’, secular accounts of evil, and Anglo-American theories of justice. Among his recent publications are: ‘Searching for the mark of Cain – Barry’s exploration of Evil Persons’ Journal of Value Inquiry, 2014; ‘Recalibrating Steiner on Evil’ in Hillel Steiner and the Anatomy of Justice 2009; ‘Torture and Liberalism’ in Democratiya (7) 2006; and ‘Defining Evil - Insights from the problem of “dirty hands”’in The Monist, 85/2, 2002. He is also co-editor of Representation: The Journal of Representative Democracy.
