BIOGRAPHY:
Paul M. Hughes is a Professor of Philosophy at The University of Michigan-Dearborn. Professor Hughes has published numerous articles and book reviews on a variety of topics in ethics, political philosophy, and the philosophy of law, including philosophical analyses of forgiveness, temptation, social and legal constraints on personal autonomy, the ethics of human bodily organ sales, affirmative action, and legal entrapment. He was recently awarded a senior faculty research grant from the University of Michigan to further investigate the effects of intrusive social policies on personal freedom in a project entitled “When Nudge Comes to Push and Push Comes to Shove: The Perils of Libertarian Paternalism.” Professor Hughes also teaches courses in jurisprudence, philosophical ethics, and the philosophy of religion.
