BIOGRAPHY:

Sheila J. Rabin received her Ph.D. in History from the City University of New York Graduate Center in 1987. Her dissertation, “Two Renaissance Views of Astrology: Pico and Kepler” was directed by Edward Rosen and, after his death, Richard Lemay. She continues to specialize in the Renaissance debate on astrology and has published “Kepler’s Attitude toward Pico and the Anti-astrology Polemic” in Renaissance Quarterly and “Was Kepler’s Species Immateriata Substantial?” in the Journal for the History of Astronomy. She has also published several articles and chapters in books, including “Pico on Astrology and Magic in Pico della Mirandola: New Essays, edited by Michael V. Dougherty from Cambridge University Press, and entries in a number of scholarly reference books. From 2002 to 2008 she was Book Reviews Editor of Renaissance Quarterly. She is currently working on a book-length manuscript tentatively titled Science and Religion in the Renaissance Debate on Astrology. She has been on the faculty of Saint Peter’s College since 1992 and is currently Professor of History.
