BIOGRAPHY:

Hélio J. S. Alves (1963) is Professor of Portuguese Literature at the University of Lisbon, after teaching previously at the University of Évora, Portugal and the University of Macau, China. He also taught and examined at the universities of New York (Graduate Center, CUNY), Oxford, Paris-Sorbonne and Pavia. His field of research is the literature of the European Renaissance, with special reference to the Portuguese 16th century. Bulletin of Hispanic Studies, Criticón, Italique, Limite, Mélanges de la Casa de Velázquez, Modern Philology and Studia Aurea are among the international journals that have published his research, His most recent book, an anthology co-authored with Landeg White, is entitled Poets Who Weren’t Camões (2018). He is the author and performer of two CD albums of piano music.
