BIOGRAPHY:
William M. Hamlin is a professor of English at Washington State University. He is the author of Tragedy and Scepticism in Shakespeare's England (Palgrave, 2005) and, more recently, Montaigne's English Journey: Reading the Essays in Shakespeare's Day (Oxford, 2013). A recipient of research fellowships from the British Academy, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the J. S. Guggenheim Foundation, he is currently preparing Montaigne: A Very Short Introduction for Oxford University Press.
