BIOGRAPHY:

Monika Horstmann (a.k.a. Boehm-Tettelbach) retired as Professor of Modern Languages and Literatures of South Asia at South Asia Institute, University of Heidelberg. Her area of research is north India, with a focus on religious orders of Rajasthan, their literature, and the interface between religion and politics. Among her books are studies on Kachavaha patronage of the deity Govind of Vrindaban and later on of Jaipur, on the religous policy of Jaisingh II of Jaipur, on the accession to the throne of Pratapsingh of Jaipur, and on the discourse between bhakti and yoga in seventeenth-century Dādūpanthī codices.
