BIOGRAPHY:

Rafael Chambouleyron is an Associate Professor at the Universidade Federal do Pará, in Brazil. He obtained his PhD from the University of Cambridge, in 2005. Since then he has been working on the colonial history of Portuguese Amazonia, especially on topics such as American Indian slavery and compulsory labour, Amazonian colonial economy, and occupation of the territory. In 2016 he co-edited a book (in Portuguese and Spanish) which presents new approaches on the colonial history of the region, entitled "Novos olhares sobre a Amazônia colonial".
