Michael A. McCarthy is a doctoral student at New York University. He is currently completing his dissertation on the development of private pensions in the U.S. since the passage of the Social Security Act in 1935. This work is supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation. His broad interests include social policy, old-age, class analysis, and Marxian theory. He has publications on Marxism in American sociology, union democracy, and political violence.
