BIOGRAPHY:

Morgan Carpenter is a bioethicist, advocate and consultant on bodily diversity issues, a Justice of the Peace, and a graduate and PhD candidate in bioethics at Sydney Health Ethics, the University of Sydney. An intersex man, Morgan is a co-executive director of Intersex Human Rights Australia and a member of the Australasian Association of Bioethics and Health Law. He is also the creator of the intersex flag. He plays an active role in systemic advocacy on legislative, regulatory and clinical reform. In 2013, Morgan formally reviewed a “DSD Genetics” research website funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council. He participated in the first UN expert meeting on ending human rights violations against intersex persons in 2015. During 2017, Morgan was a member of a drafting committee for the Yogyakarta Principles plus 10 on the application of international human rights law in relation to sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics. His work also includes consulting to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and membership of an Australian Human Rights Commission expert reference group on protecting the human rights of people born with variations of sex characteristics in the context of medical interventions.
