BIOGRAPHY:

Dr McCaw-Binns is a Professor of Reproductive Health and Epidemiology and Head of the Department of Community Health and Psychiatry, University of the West Indies, Mona in Jamaica. Areas of research interest include maternal and perinatal health and vital registration, especially programme and policy design, strategic planning and implementation evaluation. She has collaborated with WHO, PAHO, UN Women and the Institute of Medicine on measuring maternal morbidity and mortality and infant health outcomes. Her work with the Ministry of Health and the Planning Institute in Jamaica has focused on developing specialist antenatal care for high risk mothers; reducing morbidity and mortality from hypertension in pregnancy; developing guidelines for maternal mortality surveillance and response and improving vital registration quality and completeness. She is an alumna of New York University (BA), Tulane University (MPH) and the University of Bristol (PhD).
