BIOGRAPHY:

Barbara Battel-Kirk BSc. (Hons), MSc. Health Promotion, is a self employed consultant on health promotion and multidisciplinary public health with a particular interest in capacity building and competency development for health promotion. Barbara has worked in the academic, voluntary and statutory sectors in Ireland, the UK and Canada. Her experience includes working as a health promotion practitioner in a variety of settings, as lecturer in health promotion at graduate and post graduate levels and as researcher and project manager. Barbara was the project manager on a major 3 year EU funded initiative ‘Developing competencies and professional standards for health promotion capacity building in Europe - CompHP’ ( 2009-2012 and a consultant on establishing the IUHPE European Accreditation System ( 2013). Publications include a comprehensive literature review on health promotion competencies published in May 2009, papers on developing and operationalising an accreditation system for health promotion in Europe (2012 and 2014) and coauthoring a chapter in the recently published Global Handbook on Noncommunicable Diseases and Health Promotion published by Springer in 2013.
