BIOGRAPHY:
Holly Mata, PhD, CHES is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Hispanic Health Disparities Research Center and Graduate Faculty (School of Nursing) at the University of Texas at El Paso. Her research focus is health equity policy. She enjoys her work with diverse community stakeholders, and collaborates with local health departments, public housing programs, and several community-based organizations. She is a Certified Health Education Specialist and loves working with undergraduate and graduate students in public health sciences and nursing research. Her prior work experience includes teaching psychology courses at college campuses on military bases, drug and alcohol counseling in tribal and community mental health settings, school counseling, and counseling for victims and child witnesses of intimate partner violence. She has published and presented regionally and nationally in the areas of social determinants of health, Hispanic health, tobacco-related disparities, and policy advocacy to build health equity.
