BIOGRAPHY:

Dennis M. Gorman, Ph.D., is a Professor of Social Epidemiology in the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics at the Texas A&M University School of Rural Public Health. Gorman received his doctorate in Medical Sociology from the University of Essex in 1988. He has conducted social epidemiological studies in the area of alcohol and violence etiology and prevention for the past 25 years. His specific research interests include applying systems methods and geospatial analysis to the study of the relationship between alcohol availability and violence, evaluation of public policies to reduce alcohol-related problems, and the use and misuse of science in the evaluation of primary prevention programs. With regard to systems methods, Gorman is especially interested in the application of agent-based models and system dynamics models to understanding the social ecology of alcohol-related violence.
