Dr. Fitzpatrick has practiced and written extensively in program evaluation. Her Ph.D. is in educational psychology with a focus in program evaluation. In her 30 years of conducting and writing about evaluation, she has evaluated programs concerning education, substance abuse, and women and children's issues. She is the author of a well-known textbook in program evaluation, currently being published in its 4th edition, and a book on the practices of exemplary evaluators. Dr. Fitzpatrick has published in Evaluation Review, American Journal of Evaluation, New Directions for Evaluation, and Evaluation and Program Planning. She has served on the Board of the American Evaluation Association and is on the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Evaluation and New Directions for Evaluation. She is a faculty member with the School of Public Affairs at the University of Colorado Denver where she has taught courses in research methods, statistics, and program evaluation. She has won awards at the university in both teaching and research. Most recently, she was elected President of the American Evaluation Association to serve in 2013. Her areas of expertise include qualitative and quantitative methods, ethics, and evaluation theory.
