BIOGRAPHY:
Flávia Camargo Toni (b. 1956) holds a Ph.D. in Arts from the University of São Paulo’s School of Communication and Arts, which she received with a dissertation on Mário de Andrade’s musical thought in 1989. She is Full Professor at the Institute of Brazilian Studies of the University of São Paulo. Previous positions held in the field of Cultural Studies include Researcher and Supervisor of the Music Research Team, Research Division of the Centro Cultural São Paulo (1983–1987); and technician in Archiving Studies at the Instituto de Estudos Brasileiros da Universidade de São Paulo (1987–1988). She is also a cellist who plays viola da gamba in early music ensembles.
