BIOGRAPHY:

Laura Murray has a B.A. in Political Science and Women’s Studies from Wellesley College (2000) and a Masters in International Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (2005). She has worked on issues related to gender, sexuality, and health as a researcher, activist, and filmmaker internationally since 2000. She is currently a PhD Candidate in the Medical Anthropology track of the Sociomedical Sciences Department at Columbia University where she is writing her dissertation about the politics of HIV/AIDS and sex worker activism in Brazil. She has published journal articles on sexuality and HIV in Brazil in Social Science and Medicine, Culture, Health and Sexuality, and the American Journal of Public Health in addition to a book of the life histories of sex workers in the Dominican Republic.
