BIOGRAPHY:
Irina Troconis is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Languages and Literatures at New York University. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in French Literature and Law, Jurisprudence, and Social Thought from Amherst College (US), and an MPhil Degree in Latin American Studies from Cambridge University (UK). Her research focuses on the politics of memory in contemporary Latin America, and her doctoral dissertation explores the relationship between memory, magic, and the state in Venezuela in the aftermath of Hugo Chávez’s Bolivarian Revolution. Irina is a recipient of a Mellon Fellowship and is currently an honorary fellow at the NYU Center for the Humanities. In the fall of 2019, Irina will be joining the faculty at Cornell University’s Romance Studies Department.
