Ian C. D. Moffat






Dr. Moffat is a retired Canadian Naval Officer with a PhD in War Studies and Civil-Military relations. He is also an Afghan war veteran who was NATO’s Chief of Counter Improvised Explosive Device Training in Kabul and throughout Afghanistan. He has served at sea as a Bridge Watchkeeper, Weapons Officer, and was Executive Officer (second-in-command) of a Canadian destroyer. His assignments ashore included a time as a recruiting officer for the Canadian military and as a staff officer at Canada’s National Defence Headquarters in numerous capacities, including Canadian secretary to NATO and Asia-Pacific committees. In addition, he was a member of the military bomb disposal unit stationed in Ottawa. He was born in Montreal and retired in Ottawa, after 41 years of service in the Royal Canadian Navy. He is married to his wife Margaret and has two adult sons.
