BIOGRAPHY:
Steve Paul spent more than 40 years in daily journalism and is now, as an independent scholar, devoted to literary biography. He co-edited a collection of scholarly essays, War + Ink: New Perspectives on Ernest Hemingway's Early Life and Writings (Kent State UP, 2013), and is the author of Hemingway at Eighteen: The Pivotal Year That Launched an American Legend (Chicago Review Press, 2017). His biography of Evan S. Connell, Literary Alchemist, has been published (December, 2021) by the University of Missouri Press. He is a former board member of the National Book Critics Circle, an active member of the Ernest Hemingway Society, and currently on the board of Biographers International Organization. He is also the editor of a book of contemporary noir fiction and author and photographer of a book on Kansas City architecture. He is a contributing bibliographer for The Hemingway Review and his arts commentaries appear regularly in KC Studio magazine. He is currently at work on a biography of the poet William Stafford.
