BIOGRAPHY:
Cornelia Aust is a Faculty Member in the History department at Bielefeld Univeristy. She received her PhD in History from the University of Pennsylvania in May 2010. In her dissertation titled Commercial Cosmopolitanism. Networks of Jewish Merchants between Warsaw and Amsterdam, 1750-1820 she examines the functioning of commercial and familial networks of members of the Jewish mercantile elite as well as the intersection between economic and social power. She studied in Leipzig, Jerusalem, Berlin, and Warsaw, and holds a M.A. from the Free University Berlin (2003). She received various fellowships including an International Dissertation Research Fellowship from the Social Science Research Council (2006-07). In 2008-2009, she was a fellow at the Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies in Philadelphia. From 2010 to 2013 she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Martin Buber Society of Fellows at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
