BIOGRAPHY:

Dr. David Shinn is an adjunct professor in the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University where he teaches courses on African affairs. He served for 37 years in the U.S. foreign service with assignments at embassies in Lebanon, Kenya, Tanzania, Mauritania, Cameroon, Sudan and as ambassador to Burkina Faso and Ethiopia. He is the co-author of Historical Dictionary of Ethiopia and China and Africa: A Century of Engagement, in addition to numerous articles in academic and policy journals. Ambassador Shinn is a frequent guest on the BBC, Voice of America, Aljazeera and National Public Radio. A specialist on the Horn of Africa and China-Africa, he blogs at http://davidshinn.blogspot.com. He has a PhD in political science from George Washington University.
