BIOGRAPHY:

Angel Saavedra Cisneros is a political psychologist who focuses on political behavior and minority politics. His research synthesizes theories from psychology and political science, and employs quantitative methodological tools to better understand how immigrant groups approach politics across multiple settings. Dr. Saavedra Cisneros has used experiments and large observational datasets to explain Latino political participation, partisan identity, and vote choice in the United States. His book: “Latino Identity and Political Attitudes: Why Are Latinos Not Republican?” received the 2017 Best Book in Race and Political Behavior award from the Race, Ethnicity, and Politics organized section of the American Political Science Association. Beyond the U.S. context, his scholarly interests also involve political and electoral behavior in Latin America. He graduated from Brigham Young University with university honors and received his Ph.D. from Stony Brook University. His teaching focuses on American racial and ethnic politics, campaigns and elections, political behavior, and methodology.
