BIOGRAPHY:

Doctorate in biology from the Complutense University of Madrid. Currently, he is Research Professor at the Spanish High Council for Scientific Research (CSIC). He has been Head of Department of History of Science and of Department of American Studies in CSIC. Also, he was Honorary Teacher of the Autónoma University of Madrid. His primary areas of expertise are the history of biology and the theoretical biology. In this context, he has developed two main lines of research: The knowledge of the American nature in the 18th century; and the history and development of the theory of evolution in the 19th and 20th centuries.
